Three Tips For Changing Your Driving Habits
Driving is such a pleasure and you can get anywhere you want to, provided that you have a good car and a tank of gas. But that's just the very thing; cheap gas is really hard to come by these days and your luxury is no more like a liability.
The only way for you to really enjoy your driving and save gas at the same time so that you won't spend too much money is to change the way you drive your vehicle. If you find that you are more of a gas guzzler than your car actually is, it's time to practice other ways to make sure that your car gives you the best mileage per gallon. Here are a few driving tips that will help you do just that.
• Don't be a speed demon – When you have an open stretch of road in front of you, that doesn't give you the license to step on the gas and go faster. In fact, some people believe that if you go faster, you will save more gas because you will reach your destination faster. This is far from the truth.
If you go faster, you release more gas that will allow your car to go faster. What happens is that you lose more gas just stepping on that pedal. But if you go at a pace and allow your car to roll without stepping on the gas too much, chances are that you will save more gas because you will not step on the pedal so much.
There's also no reason why you should rush to your destination. You give even a greater chance to getting in an accident or earning yourself a speed ticket that you have to spend more money and valuable time on. Take your time and make sure you leave early so that you reach your destination on time. You will be glad that you made this change in your speeding habits.
• When idle, don't rev - Ever caught yourself revving the engine while you are stopped at the traffic light? Your car engine doesn't need to be pushed so hard when it's idle. Avoid revving the car; you are not in a race after all. The worst that can happen is that you flood the engine and it stalls, meaning you can't start it up again until a little later. You don't want this to happen. Again, revving the car's engine will result in even more gas being wasted; plus, you aren't even moving.
• Drive when you need to – Need to go to the neighbor's house down the street to borrow some sugar? Why do you need to drive there when you can easily just walk to that person's house? Change the habit of depending on your car for the slightest of chores. You still have a pair of good legs and you can do without a car in some situations just fine. Think about the gas you save just by walking the short distances and only driving when you need to.
